The Aphasia and Aging Lab

Dr. Aviva Lerman is a senior lecturer in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and a qualified speech and language therapist with over 20 years of clinical and research experience. She holds a BA and MA in Communication disorders from Hadassah Academic College, Jerusalem, and completed her PhD. in Prof. Loraine Obler’s neurolinguistics lab at the Graduate Center, CUNY, in New York. Her fields of expertise include post-stroke aphasia, dementia, healthy aging, multilingualism, and neurolinguistics. Dr. Lerman has worked on the rehabilitation ward in Hadassah Mount Scopus Medical Center, Jerusalem, since 2006, and currently runs the Aphasia and Aging lab at Haifa University.

 Nasreen Awad Khury is an M.A. student currently working on her thesis on the topic of self-disclosure and aphasia. She received her B.A. in Communication Disorders from Tel Aviv University and currently works at two Child Development Centers, combining clinical practice with managerial responsibilities. Her previous clinical experience includes managing a private speech-language clinic, where she specialized in the assessment and treatment of aphasia, hearing impairment, stuttering, and developmental delays.

 Chen Shahar Peysakhovych is a student in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Haifa. She holds a B.A. in Behavioral Sciences and has a professional background in the mental health field. She is concurrently completing her B.A. and M.A. degrees in Communication Disorders, while beginning her Master’s thesis research on self-disclosure and aphasia under the guidance of Dr. Aviva Lerman. Alongside her studies, she began gaining clinical experience in educational settings, working with children with speech, language, and learning difficulties under the supervision of experienced speech-language pathologists.
